Mountain Cookin' with Missy's Pone Bread -- a delicious side, sure to be enjoyed by the whole family!
Kitchenware
- One 8 inch or 9 inch skillet
- One Spoon or spatula
- One Basting Brush
Ingredients

2 c self-rising flour

1/4 c melted lard, shortening or butter (a little more for greasing the skillet)

1½ c buttermilk

Melted salted butter (To brush on when removing from oven)
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 375
Grease an 8- or 9-inch skillet with lard, shortening or butter. Tip: Place the skillet in the oven while it’s heating up. This will give the bread a crust. (1/4 c melted lard, shortening or butter)
Mix flour, lard and buttermilk together.
Stir till combined. It will be like a thick pancake batter. Don’t over stir. (2 c self-rising flour, 1/4 c melted lard, shortening or butter, 1½ c buttermilk)
Pour the batter in the hot skillet and bake for about 30 minutes till golden brown.
Brush with melted salted butter. (Melted salted butter)
